Subjects

Getting a subject is hard, I find to my sorrow
For a topic, I can steal, beg or borrow
My lack of a muse
Is my favorite excuse.
But National Poetry Month begins tomorrow.

Note: My idea is to mangle some lines from well known poems. If you have suggestions, please let me know. I will try my best. Though, most likely, will offend you. But its the thought that counts?

Barefoot running

It was only a matter of time, I suppose:
The popularity of shoes with five toes
They are uglier than Uggs.
And cant make cheetahs of slugs.
But as long as people are moving, anything goes.

Note: I found this to be pretty useful while jumping on the "barefoot" "running" bandwagon : http://www.merrell.com/~Uploaded/Assets/MERR/files/womens_barefoot_training_program.pdf

So unfair

When I first saw the Fair and Handsome billboard
"A great spoof", I thought, and With laughter roared.
But it was a real product.
And SRK and ilk sucked.
Our own intra-racism will continue to be ignored.

Us vs Them

When I'm driving, the bikers make me mad
When I'm walking, the drivers are so bad.
On highways and hikes
Road rage often strikes.
Mustt.. breeeathe. Let go. Dont be the cad.

Call now!

I would always wonder what lay beneath
The perfect hair and sparkling white teeth
I had a chance to find out
But lost it to self-doubt.
Alas! All i can do now is lay a wreath.

Binge Watch

The gluttony of choice at Netflix just wasn't fair
Arguing and selecting a movie took so much care.
Then binge watch started to explode.
You just need to choose a first episode.
Days later and still all you need to do is stare

Note: If you have not seen the awesome Portlandia sketch on the Battlestar Galactica addition, you *have* to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aQttrkzWOo4
If you haven't watched Battlestar Galactica, you *have* to. See you in a week!

Clean up!

There is something I have to confess
My place is in a perennial mess.
Panic ensues when guests call ahead
Everything is shoved under the bed
Which hides monsters bigger than Loch Ness.

Revisiting the art of tying laces

When I set off at an important, brisk pace,
You invariably come undone, you stupid lace!
A solution was highly sought,
Enter: The Double Slip Knot.
But now I've lost my excuse for losing a race.

Note: It might seem silly getting excited about tying laces - something we mastered at 2 years old. But seriously, learn from here : http://www.fieggen.com/shoelace/secureknot.htm and thank me later.

The Case of the Missing Plane

For us, it has become a fun game at parties
Did the plane vanish into thin air or the seas?
But a simple "yes" or a "no"
trumps an "I don't know"
And may provide some closure to the families.

Could've, Would've, Should've

"Potential" is a dirty word.
One of the worst I've ever heard.
"Hopeless" is kinder.
And not a reminder
That what could've been mousse, is turd.

Holi Day

Today is Holi, St Patrick's Day and Navroz too, i think.
Whether you're wearing green or red, yellow and pink.
Another year has gone by,
Think back, look ahead while high
.. On life, that is (nudge nudge) (wink wink)

Getting old

Living for the moment while planning for the future.
Looking at retirement like a sheep does a butcher.
Exercise somehow.
Stop splurging now.
You don't want them using a staple gun instead of a suture.

Cosmos

If you looked up with awe at the sky today
And saw the moon hang like a prop in a play
Or wondered at our place
In Time and Space,
Re-visit Cosmos with Tyson every Sunday.

Note: You don't  have to watch it only on Sunday but it made for an easier rhyme! You can catch up with it later too here : http://www.cosmosontv.com/  Also, I've not been paid for this. Honest.

In the hallways

He's walking over at his languid pace.
Speak up! Slow down, it is not a race.
"Happy Friday!"
"Happy Pi Day!"
She couldn't wipe the smile off her face.

The plant destroyer strikes again

Oh Basil! they promised you grew like a weed.
In my meals, pesto would've had the starring lead.
"From garden to table,"
Alas, remains a fable.
A green thumb is what I desperately need.

Finding Phone

One of the reasons I disliked being alone
Was the lack of another's cell to find my phone
Now I do not worry.
Google call is free!
Now if only I had not silenced the ringtone.

Add a dash of wonder

When you're in a pity party because life's so unfair
And you cant seem to bring yourself to care.
Step out of the bubble.
Look into the Hubble.
There's just so much awesomeness out there.

Bonus:   From the Hubble: http://www.spacetelescope.org/news/heic1404/
Not that our pale blue dot pales in comparison: Discovery Channel song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-_PqDaHLqY
And, of course, the xkcd remix:  https://xkcd.com/442/

Ooh! Aah! Ouch!

Deprived of sunlight in an air conditioned hall
Slouched over screens, the key strokes quickly fall
Damn lower back pain!
The Engineer's Bane.
Maybe those standing desks aren't so silly after all?

Spring forward: DST change

I've finally realized procrastination is my crime.
No more, though. No excuse brooked, no reason or rhyme..
Ugh! I lost a whole hour.
My plans have gone sour.
I will finish it when we fall back in eight months' time?

Guess who's back?

I thought I was at the end of my writing rope
But I return with the fond and foolish(?) hope
A limerick a day
will help me stay
And that some days I will go out of scope.
